From the dawn of time, tradesmen decorated Chinese porcelain with symbolic and auspicious ideas. Bat (fu 蝠) is a symbol of good fortune while deer (lu 鹿) symbolises the ability to reap rewards (lu 祿). The decorative details on Chinese porcelain reflect the hopes and wishes of ancient Chinese. Each generation holds a different set of expectations, while younger Millennials are driven by different desires today.

We combine traditional Chinese porcelain with popular culture, aiming to bring traditional crafts and blessings into everyday life. ‘3 Wishes Plates Boxset’ consists of 3 limited editions, including:

[KOL] Rice Patten Plate
[KOL] 米通碟

Simple at first glance, there is a twist to this seemingly traditional design when conventional Chinese prosperous symbols have been replaced by icons we often see on social media, such as likes and hashtags. For example, the dragon at the centre is taking a selfie with its mobile phone. As we spend more and more time on social media, many of us are posting simply for a satisfactory like or comment from our friends. All of us are literally living for ‘likes’. ;)

[Bitches] Canton Style Plate
[花生友] 廣彩碟

Colourful birds, fighting cocks and human daily life were commonly used as decoration in traditional Canton style porcelain, but what if we replaced them with a modern workplace scenario? With a rich polychrome decoration of flowers, animals, this plate not only keeps the distinguishing feature of Canton style porcelain but also gives a unique sense of modernity. Male and female coworkers gathering in the office, gossiping and talking under the pretence of working hard; this plate is ideal for serving the peanuts with your friends!

[Son of the rich] Red-Glazed Plate
[敗家仔] 紅瓷碟

With auspicious red colour and distinct patterns, traditional porcelain is often red-glazed, featuring scenes of traditional gardens and seasonal blooms. This design adds a modern twist: Modern people enjoying an ancient garden landscape creates a sense of humour between the old and new. The peacock to the left is in full display. Per Chinese culture, its "thousand eyes" is promoting fame and auspiciousness while the circular coin with a square hole generates prosperity for the viewer. Relaxation in a modern-day context is no more than playing guitar, or walking the dog!

For the branding, we created a set of posters to promote the plates. To create the largest visual impact, we placed the plate at the center and created the same graphic extension from the plates.

On packaging design, we used cardboard box as the material to give an artisanal feeling. To maximise the protection in the smallest packaging size, We created an "U" shape inner cardboard piece to hold the plate in a hollow position. The design can successfully protect the plate from breaking from a 1.2m drop to the floor. The whole packaging is created by folding, without any gluing, which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
